About
A Bigouden sailor, pure butter! François Guiffant, nicknamed "Fanch" was born in Pont l'Abbé, originally from Guilvinec. As a teenager, he was introduced to regattas at the Kerleven nautical center before joining the Finistère team in dinghies, then sport catamarans and liveaboards. A keen racer, he then worked with the best crews in Mini and Figaro, then as a professional sailor, and accumulated miles on extreme supports: 50-foot multihulls, 60-foot ORMA, 60-foot IMOCA, MAXI, Transat Jacques Vabre, AG2R, Class 40. Passionate about the technical aspects of this sport, he participates in the construction of racing boats at the CDK shipyard in Port La Forêt. For more than 20 years, he has been involved in the ocean racing circuit as a technical trainer and navigator. He has prepared many boats, notably for Jérémy Beyou, Vincent Riou, Samantha Davies, Michel Desjoyaux (at the time of the Orma), or Jean-Pierre Dick, as well as 5 Vendée Globe as "boat captain", François has accumulated a great deal of experience with these boats that go around the world. It was in 2017, on the Transat Jacques Vabre that he started working with Pierre Lacaze, owner and skipper of the boat that finished 10th in this edition, along with Yoann Richomme.
The Route du Rhum: legendary, mythical, violent, spicy, Caribbean, sun, gliding, happiness... So many words to define a race that has its share of surprises and so many sailors who have created its legend.
