SAINT-MALO
Saint-Malo is an historic town in Brittany which was built between the 17th and 18th centuries and it retains a very strong historic heritage with original architecture as well as an environmental heritage, Saint-Malo still looks and feels authentic, especially within the walls of the original centre.
It is a city which has always looked out to sea. It has been the historic starting point of the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe since the first edition in 1978. Saint Malo combines a love for the sea and all weathers. It has been and continues to be home to great sailors, from explorers to explorers, including corsairs, Cape Horn captains, fishermen as well as dozens of renowned offshore racers, the Corsair City has pursued an active policy of culture and tourism for more than four decades hosting major sailing events.
The Breton port has become a mecca for lovers of the open sea and of freedom, and loves to see visitors walk the ramparts and the quays, enjoying the unique and incomparable atmosphere.
Saint-Malo has a history of 44 years inherently joined to this race and is an integral part of the whole story of the race.
Village of Saint-Malo
Dates
All in the same basin !
For the first time the Ultims or “sea giants” will be docked in the main basins. Until now because of their exceptional dimensions they were forced to moor outside, near the Bourse ferry terminal.
In 2022, they will join the rest of the fleet in the Vauban and Duguay-Trouin basins. All the boats will thus be grouped together along the emblematic quays of the race, at the foot of Intra-Muros and the Palais du Grand Large.
Parades to show off the boats
Another new thing for 2022, during its first week of opening, the village will also be animated by the evolution of the boats other than on that one single start day. In front of the ramparts of the City of Saint-Malo, each class will have a dedicated parade day to showcase the entire fleet to the general public. These activities will certainly add focus to the atmosphere of this period and the excitement. So too at the finish competitors will have parade days with the incredible panorama of the islands of Guadeloupe as a backdrop.

Guadeloupe : Pointe-à-Pitre, Arrival village
Located about 8,000 km from Europe and lying between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, since 1978’s first edition the Guadeloupe Region has hosted the finish of the mythical Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe. This archipelago of islands has long since become known for its many tourist attractions, for the beauty and diversity of its landscapes, the richness of its cultural heritage and its traditions, its gastronomy and its land combining tradition and modernity, its historical sites and the variety of its rhythms and sounds.
The city of Pointe-à-Pitre remains the historical finish port of the race. It has a rich and diversified architectural heritage, an important history with a unique identity. It was established in the middle of the 18th century on the marshy shores of a very sheltered bay which is an exceptional anchorage.
The race finished first at the marina of Bas-du-Fort, then at the Darse at the Place de la Victoire from 2002 but since 2018, it has been the Memorial ACTe an impressive modern architectural masterpiece which is a lasting memorial and tribute to the proud Caribbean peoples.
