PARTNER OF THE ROUTE DU RHUM-DESTINATION-GUADELOUPE for 44 years all the way from the 1st edition to this 12th edition.

Sans titre-7.png

Since 1978, the SNBSM has been committed to working with the race organizers -now OC Sport-Pen Duick- and the City, to help provide Saint-Malo with logistical support and entertainment. This year, with the higher number of boats, an extended duration, the parades and the security requirements, the Club has mustered more than 400 volunteers. They are used in different sectors: sea, lock, pontoons, village entrances, car parks, etc. always with efficiency and usually wearing the smiles of people who love to be involved and contribute to an event which is so important to their city.

Work and organisational plans start more than a year before the start, the planning and preparation for all of the many jobs are launched. Then comes the time for the big move, removing the members’ boats to make way for the competitors' boats. Then, it is a question of welcoming the competitors, assisting them in the approach to Saint-Malo, during the passage of the lock, and in their positioning and mooring. The volunteers are always on hand to assist and secure the movements of the RIBs during the activities and visits to the basins and docks and, of course, they are there for the dock out and to assist race management at the start. But there are many more jobs, liaising with competitors, support for the media, information for visitors, driving of official vehicles, management and monitoring of car parks, accreditations, etc.

THE SNBSM and THE ROUTE DU RHUM-DESTINATION GUADELOUPE :

It's a long story ! The SNBSM, which had launched the great French offshore race “TRIANGLE ATLANTIQUE” in 1975, was looking for a new formula which would also bring Saint-Malo alive between summer and Christmas. The meeting of Yannick Jardin, president of the SNBSM with Michel Etevenon was conclusive and the Route du Rhum started in 1978, 44 years ago today. Many members of the SNBSM have taken part in this mythical race and, in 2022, there are 18 entrants from the wider Saint Malo area 11 of whom are members or licensees of the SNBSM !

THE SNBSM : A PLACE FOR LEARNING AND PRACTICING SAILING AND COASTAL ROWING :

The SNBSM, which turns 174 this year, continues its mission training as many young people as possible and does everything possible to allow everyone to practice sailing and coastal rowing in the best conditions. It offers courses at all levels on its bases of BON SECOURS, ROTHENEUF, LE NAYE, BAS SABLONS. It organizes regattas and nautical events throughout the year. It allows its best to participate in national and international competitions. In 2021, the rowing section of the SNBSM distinguished itself with Kerrian Boulay, world champion in Beach Rowing, and the vice-champions of France in 4 junior men's cox. The light sailing section is not to be outdone with the SNBSM Trinquette crew, French J 80 champion in the Hope and Mixed category.
