About
Born without a left hand, Damien Seguin pursues two careers at the same time: one in Paralympic sailing, the other in ocean racing. A three-time Paralympic medallist in the 2.4mR class with gold medals in Athens and Rio and silver in Beijing, and a five-time world champion in this discipline, Damien first competed in ocean racing in 2005 in the Figaro class before moving to the Class 40, a boat on which he competed in several transatlantic races. A jack of all trades, the skipper won the Tour de France à la Voile in 2017. A few months later, he was at the helm of an IMOCA flying the colours of the APICIL Group. On 28 January 2021, Damien Seguin finished 7th in his first Vendée Globe, becoming the first handisports skipper to complete a round the world race. No sooner had he arrived than the solo sailor was already looking ahead to his next goal: to take part in the world's toughest race again in 2024. However, this time, he wants to go even further in terms of performance by sailing a hydrofoil boat. A boat with which he will compete in the next Route du Rhum.

In any passion, there is a triggering moment. For me, this was the arrival of the 1990 Route du Rhum. I was there because I was living in Guadeloupe at the time. I decided that I wanted to be like all those sailors.
