About
Giancarlo Pedote was born in Florence, Italy 45 years ago. Although he comes from a town located far from the sea, he first encountered this passion as a young man, initially dedicating himself to windsurfing and then to sailing. After extensive experience in leisure sailing, he began his professional racing career in the Mini 6.50 class in 2007. He obtained excellent results in this class. In the same year began the association and partnership with his long-standing sponsor the Prysmian Group. This was one of the most enduring collaborations in the history of Italian boating. Fifteen years ago he moved permanently to France to settle at the offshore racing centre in Lorient. There he deepened his knowledge and experience of offshore sailing on the Atlantic. Voted Italian Sailor of the Year in 2013 and 2016, Giancarlo Pedote is an atypical sailor. With a degree in philosophy from the University of Florence, he takes a very methodical Cartesian approach to sailing, whereby he strives to overcome his limits. A former boxer and combat sport enthusiast, he enjoys all kinds of physical activity. He trains with a group of triathletes to enhance his physical preparation and improve his endurance and performance. Twice French Champion in Solo Offshore Racing Promotion; twice Mini 6.50 World Champion, after having explored the Figaro Class, the foiling Moth, and the Class 40 as well, in 2017, he started racing in the IMOCA category. In 2020, he fulfilled his dream of participating in the Vendée Globe. The only Italian taking part in the ninth edition, he finished on 28 January 2021 in 8th place, only 19 hours behind the leader. Author of two technical books on sailing along with a DVD on sailing solo, he recently published another book on his last Vendée Globe in Italy, ""L'anima nell'oceano"", published by Rizzoli of the Mondadori Group.

When I started sailing solo, the Route du Rhum was the stuff of dreams. In 2014, I took part in the Class 40. I really enjoyed this beautiful solo event, highly technical, a mythical race on the circuit where you have to maintain your energy right to the end.
