About

Skipper of the GROUPE GCA-1001 SOURIRES, Gilles Lamiré has been a multi-hull specialist for over 15 years. He is vastly experienced in ocean racing, having competed in the Route du Rhum no less than four times - and another 4 in the Transat Jacques Vabre. As the years have passed his list of victories has grown: in 2016, he won the legendary Transat (STAR), and in 2019 was victorious in the Transat Jacques Vabre. Taking the helm of the GROUPE GCA-1001 SOURIRES in 2019, the skipper from Cancale wanted to get behind a winning and solidarity-driven program. On one hand, his partner the Groupe GCA (France's top distributor of Toyota and Lexus cars) elected to entrust him with one of the most competitive trimarans on the circuit. On the other, Gilles Lamiré wanted his boat to fly the colours of 1001 Sourires (""1001 Smiles""), in order to raise awareness of the work and needs of this association which provides assistance to sick and disabled children and their families.

Gilles Lamiré part pour sa cinquième édition et sait que pour arriver, il faut trouver son rythme© fafa.pics

There are 3 words that come to mind when I think of the Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe: "legend", "solitude" and "surpassing yourself." Ever since its first edition in 1978, it's brought together single hulls, multi-hulls and sailors from all backgrounds, and it's definitely this diversity that makes it so unique and magical. This will be my 5th encounter with "the Queen of trans-Atlantic races", something that fills me with pride. It's one of the races that have made history in the world of ocean racing !
