About
Rupert lives in Sydney, Australia and has sailed his whole life. However, he is a newcomer to the Class 40 and also single handed offshore racing this year. His sailing began at a very young age, cruising in Australia and the Pacific with his parents who built the family yacht in the driveway beside their house. From 9 years old he began racing his first boat, an Optimist Dinghy. Then he progressed through various small dinghies including the International 420 and 470 classes. Over the past 20 years he has participated in many offshore races, both with a crew and also double-handed. In 2018 he won the 6000 mile double-handed race from Melbourne, Australia to Osaka, Japan. His Class 40 yacht EORA was built in Australia in 2021 and is the latest design from the Marc Lombard Design Group. This year, the EORA team has been based in La Trinite sur Mer. With EORA he placed 6th in the Normandy Channel Race and 13th in the Drheam Cup. EORA is the collective name for the Aboriginal tribes who lived around Sydney Harbour and other nearby waterways before and at the time of the English settlement of Australia.
