What is Natura2000 ?
Strengthening our vigilance around Natura2000 protected sites
The Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe aims to bring people together and inspire them without any cost to local biodiversity. That is why OC Sport Pen Duick is doing what it can to strengthen vigilance around the Natura 2000 protected sites. In order to achieve that, the organisers have joined up with various local associations to encourage and train volunteers. That is why an appraisal of the effect on Natura2000 was carried out before the event, in order to check that the event does not hugely impact habitats and species. This appraisal also lists the various precautionary measures aimed at limiting and monitoring the impact within the framework of the race.
At the same time, OC Sport Pen Duick has been working alongside official bodies to put in place measures, including in particular, shutting off the tip of the Pointe du Grouin.
The surveillance plan that was put in place will also be the subject in communication material for those who visit the village, and will be the subject of close monitoring with a final appraisal will be carried out by an independent assessor.
