Nicolas Troussel (Corum L’Epargne) crossed the finish line of the twelfth edition of the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe at 10:12:02 UTC on Wednesday 23rd November. He finished twentieth in the IMOCA class with a race time of 13 days, 20 hours, 57 minutes and 2 seconds. The skipper from Morlaix who discovered sailing with trips to the Scilly Isles sailed the 3542 theoretical miles of the race course between Saint-Malo and Pointe-à-Pitre at the speed of 10.64 knots on the Great Circle route. Out on the water, the skipper of Corum L’Epargne actually sailed 4301.21 miles averaging 12.92 knots. He finished in Pointe-à-Pitre 2 days 3 hours 20 minutes and 37 seconds after the class winner, Thomas Ruyant (LinkedOut).

Nicolas Troussel:
“My result? Well, I finished! That was the main goal after two failures in my last two attempts. There wasn’t much rest in the race and I had quite a few little problems. Sometimes that was disappointing, as I lost ground carrying out odd jobs. I had only done five days of sailing and the delivery trip before the race. That isn’t really a lot to prepare for a Route du Rhum. Since the launch, I have had a few problems with the boat, so it’s nice to finish. We’re making progress and are getting there. I broke my J2 furler drum and my three autopilots failed. The final stretch around Guadeloupe was a close contest throughout the night. I had to do lots of manoeuvres with a series of gybes to round the island and there were quite a few squalls, so it took some time. There was a final squall just before the line. The boat took off at thirty knots. In the Route du Rhum, you have to pay attention all the way to the finish.”
