About
Mikael Mergui, skipper from Hyeres, 41 years old, father of two. At the age of 5, Mikaël crossed the Atlantic on the family boat. That amazing adventure inspired him to take up sailing and the open sea. Back in France, he threw himself passionately into competition: optimist, laser, and then cruising. Later on, he took part in a series of major regattas: Copa del Rey, Giraglia, Transat 6.50, America's Cup, Tour de France à la Voile, Sydney Hobart, and 52 Super Series, etc. With this superb Class 40 project, Mikael intends on developing and raising the profile of ocean racing. By doing so, he hopes to attract the big teams and develop races that start in the Mediterranean.

"Definitely a childhood dream, to witness the great navigators like Laurent Bourgnon, Florence Arthaud, and Loïck Peyron on their ocean-going boats inspired me and still inspires me!!! As a Mediterranean, this event seems so inaccessible because the start is in St Malo and the finish in Pointe a Pitre. That offshore racing projects are not common in my area, I feel like I am still dreaming! Alas it is not so, hence I will be at the start next November with a magnificent boat in which I actively participated in its construction."En tant que méditerranéen, cette épreuve semble tellement inaccessible, car le départ se fait à St Malo et arrive à Pointe-à-Pitre, que les projets de course au large ne courent pas les rues chez nous que j'ai l'impression de rêver encore !!! Alors que non, je serais au départ en novembre prochain avec un superbe bateau sur lequel j'ai participé activement à la construction.

Favorite freeze-dried food ?
Korma chicken, but I prefer canned rations and the English breakfast (potatoes, bacon and sausage) and frankly very pleasant at sea after a wet and cold night
Lucky charm ?
My Guy Cotten waterproof bag was given to me for my birthday in 2004 when I was preparing for the Mini Transat 6.50 (La Rochelle/Salvador de Bahia). This bag accompanies me on all the offshore races that I do since
Nickname of the ship ?

Favorite creole food or beverage ?
Ti punch and boucané chicken with dog sauce (but not too spicy)
