About

"Born in Munich to a German father and a French mother, Isabelle Joschke grew up between Geneva and the outskirts of Paris. Becoming a sailor by no means written in her stars, and yet... The first spark came during family holidays on the lakes of Austria, where she had her first experience of sailing aboard an Optimist. Though aged only 5 at the time, the experience was enough to give her a taste for the open water. She caught the bug for good fifteen years later, when she took a course at Glénans. After studying humanities at the Sorbonne, Isabelle boarded a sailboat bound for Brazil. The experience was a revelation: she would make the sea her vocation. Having barely finished her degree in Classics, she gained two diplomas: one to become a skipper and the other to become a sports coach. During her early career, her voyages took her to the Antilles, the USA and the tides of the Mediterranean. When passing through Lorient she tried her hand at small yacht sailing, and fell instantly in love with the discipline. That was all it would take for Isabelle, then aged just twenty-seven, to throw herself into the crazy adventure of the Mini Transat and buy her first boat. 2007 she participated for the second time and won the first stage of the Transat. Her victory put her on the map in the world of offshore racing, and she's here to stay. At 45, Isabelle is vastly experienced in the field of ocean racing, having participated on board various types of vessel (Mini 6.50, Figaro, Class 40, IMOCA). The year 2020 saw her compete in the Vendée Globe for the first time. Although she raced superbly in the south seas, Isabelle was forced to drop out of the race on 9 January 2021, after breaking the keel safety cylinder on her IMOCA MACSF off the shore of Cape Horn. A technical stopover in Brazil would allow the skipper to complete her solo round-the-world journey outside the race, as she brought her boat into port at Sables d’Olonne, nomatter the cost."

In 2022 I'll be competing in the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe for the second time. After losing my mast on the IMOCA MONIN four years ago, I have a score to settle in this demanding solo race.

Who you really are ?

Star sign ?

Aquarius

Favorite freeze-dried food ?

I don't eat freeze-dried food. In fact, I am lucky enough to be able to take on board delicious dehydrated ''home-made'' dishes, prepared by Anne-Lise Vacher from her kitchens in the Vercors, but also by the starred chef Éric Guérin!

Nickname of the ship ?

Isamoca

Favorite creole food or beverage ?

I love fresh fruit cocktails!
